Underwater trail : Le Jardin des Mattes
The coastal underwater world is discovered on the surface, with fins, mask and snorkel by anyone who can swim.
By following the numbered buoys equipped with handrails you will discover the submerged panels presenting the ecosystem.
At depths ranging from 0 to 4 metres, there is a great diversity of underwater landscapes (Posidonia meadows, cymodocées, rocks, sands, screes...), inhabited by many species of fish, moluscs, crustaceans, starfish...
The Posidonia meadow: it is not an algae but a plant with marine flowers.
Posidonia plays a very important role in the fixation of sandy bottoms, thanks to its roots which, when mixed with sediments, form a kind of barrier called "matte".
A true "lung" of the Mediterranean, this plant has been protected since 1988.
In autonomy, the underwater trail is to be discovered, from June to September, in complete freedom by following the numbered buoys.
An Aquaguide for species identification is available at the Tourist Office.
