From the legend of Tauroentum to the villa Maritima

The legend locates the Greek city of Tauroentum at the current location of the museum, city that disappeared "under the waters" during the 3rd century. The site also demonstrates an important Roman settlement from the 1st century onwards, where almost 2,000 people lived in a huge villa maritima. Nowadays the museum houses three rooms showing an important collection of objects found in situ: amphoras, coins, glassware... and a remarkable collection of graves.
