Cuers

Cuers, an old Provencal village with picturesque streets, fountains and wash houses, old doors... Through marked paths, hikers will discover several circuits such as the one of the rocky bars and a very extensive vineyard.
Situated between plains and hills, rich in history, the commune of Cuers bears the imprint of the past. Historic Cuers, a witness to the medieval period, reveals winding streets lined with beautiful houses from past centuries that climb the hill. The church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption is the beginning of the circuit: its polychrome marble high altar and its organ, built in 1668 by Charles Royer, are both classified as Historic Monuments. The village has many fountains and wash houses and offers a magnificent view from the Notre Dame de Santé chapel, a votive chapel built following the cholera epidemic that spared Cuers in 1865. Also not to be missed: the aqueduct of the Five Bridges and the hamlet of Valcros. In addition to this historical heritage, there is a natural heritage: the Cuers Bars. These rocky bars, presenting a beautiful alignment of limestone cliffs, extend from Belgentier to the Col de La Bigue and cover an area of 240 hectares. It is a must for nature lovers. A real place of tranquillity, their highest point called "Pilon St Clément" (705 metres), offers an exceptional panorama over the plain, the Massif des Maures, the Haut-Var and the islands of Hyères. An important wine-growing commune, the main grape varieties extend over nearly 1000 hectares. A visit to the town also includes the discovery of local crafts. Some of the local craftsmen (art cabinet making, ornamental and stone cutting, art stained glass) open the doors of their workshops and show you their know-how through original works.
