The Elixir of Kings

Cru Classé - Noblesse Oblige…

Vines were cultivated on this magical site by the Romans in the 2nd century, well before the aristocratic French descendants of today's owner! A variety of wine growers and ascetics followed on from the Romans, including the monks of Lérins who took over the property between the 10th and 18th centuries. Many traces of this uncommon heritage still remain visible.

Today, Adeline de Barry is master of her domain. A woman of character, she is the holder of a family tradition dating back eighteen generations - the Château has been handed down from mother to daughter since 1740, as witnessed by the gallery of portraits featured on the "Vieilles Vignes" vintage. An extraordinary family tree, which lends the wines of Saint-Martin their particularly rich and flavourful character.

Between masked balls, treasure hunts and princely marriages, the young Countess continues to pass on her love of her terroir, paint passionate portraits of her epic family, and swathe her home with her typically feminine grace!

For the Love of Wine

The Provençal countryside harbours certain sites of a rare beauty, situated far from the pollution, hustle and bustle of city life. Inhabited for 6000 years, Château Rasque is one of these magical places.

The history of Rasque is virtually as old as time itself. Here, Neolithic men carved their stone tools, Ligurians built the Castelar oppidum to defend their crops in 400 BC, Greeks and Romans planted the first Rasque vines, and medieval peasants built their existence around the wheat, olives and wines born of this generous and fertile soil.

The hills, fields and forests of Rasque form a deliciously harmonious ensemble, scattered with tiny wild flowers in spring and autumn. The forest paths leading through dense oaks are the same as those strolled by Roman poets thousands of years ago.

The Château itself, bordered by an impressive 250- acre estate, implements traditional growing techniques, combining a deep respect for quality and time-old savoir-faire. In the last 20 years, this little jewel has risen to become one of the Var's flagship vineyards... all for the love of wine.

Cru Classé - Sensual Pleasures

At the stunning Château Sainte-Roseline, art and wine-appreciation go hand in hand. Stroked by tender vines, the Château walls are guarded by extraordinary sculptures dotted around the grounds.

Sainte-Roseline lies here in peace in her crystal shrine inside the 12th-century chapel, seemingly watching over the canvasses by Chagall and Giacometti and stained-glass windows by Bazaine adorning the stone walls of her resting place. For the Château Sainte-Roseline is also a temple of modern art.

The owner, a keen art lover, resides in the ancient abbey remodelled by talented architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.

And the wines produced at the vineyard – first founded by Pope Jean XXII in the 14th century - are just as majestic as the site itself. Seven centuries of wine-growing history have gone to elaborate these marvellous AOC wines, raised in barrels, casks or vats, resulting in powerful reds, unusual rosés and interesting whites. The mood is set as soon as you step through the door of the "Maison des Vins"... Swathed in the warm and seductive scents of the beverage of the Gods, the Wine Institute invites visitors on a fascinating voyage into the secret world of our Côtes de Provence wines.

The only one of its kind in France, the Institute boasts an impressive 750 references! Each vintage exhibits its own glistening colours: white gold, pale coral, tobacco, garnet or blood red.

The institute's wine experts use a wonderfully-evocative vocabulary to describe their magic potions; textures may be "round", "long" or "silky", while tastes range from "white flowers" to "old leather" or "garrigue".

The Maison des Vins also hosts regular wine-tasting sessions on site or at regional events.
