Puget-Ville

Puget-Ville offers all the peace and quiet of a rural village in the countryside. It was originally a primitive market town, set overlooking the plain and 9 hamlets. Today, it has extended into the plain. The inhabitants of Puget-Ville have remained deeply attached to the village's reddish-brown terroir, forming the golden triangle of the ancient Côtes de Provence wine growing area. Centuries later, the villagers continue to stand jealous guard over their vast vineyards, stretching from the village gates to the Massif des Maures hills.

Must see

Massif des Maures
The Massif des Maures is one of the wildest and oldest areas of Provence. The chain forms four long, parallel bars of low altitude, harbouring 26 pretty villages. more +
Eglise Notre Dame de l'Immaculée Conception
This church was built in 1857. It is a Romanesque-style building comprising a central nave and 2 side naves. The facade bears a sun dial above which is a clock and bell tower topped with a short arrow. The door is carved with the motto of the Republic, painted after the separation of the church and state in December 1905.
Fontaine de la Place de la Liberté
This circular fountain was built in 1822. The central carved column is topped with a replica of a Roman statue dating back to the time of Emperor Tiberius (14 – 37 AD) discovered in 1792 in Gabies (Italy) and belonging to the Louvre museum.
Tour Saint Sidoin
This tower is actually the bell tower of the old village church, destroyed in 1874.
Mentioned during the Middle Ages (1060), Saint Sidoine chapel was built on land belonging to the Dominicans and extended in 1644. It was hoisted to the rank of parish church in 1711. However, it was situated too far from the village and regularly pillaged. It was destroyed in 1874 and only the bell tower, built in 1763, remains.
Chapelle Saint Louis – Quartier de la Foux
This Provençal Romanesque-style chapel is dedicated to Saint Louis, King of France. The arched gate dates back to 1667, but various inscriptions date back to the 16th century.
Set against the chapel, the little cemetery used to bury victims of the Plague in 1721 is now reserved for local inhabitants born in the hamlet.
Tour du Faucon
This watchtower was erected in the 11th or 12th century.

Its name suggests that it was situated on the land of the Faucon Glandeves family, which owned 30% of the seigneurie in the 14th century.

Set on a hill, where wood cutting was payable to the owner and cattle grazing was prohibited, it is sometimes referred to as the Tour du Défends (tower of prohibition).

For many years, it was believed that the tower was built by the Saracens, hence explaining the fact that it is referred to as the Tour Sarrasine on certain maps. However, it was actually built after the invasion of Provence.

This pentagonal tower offers views all the way from Le Luc to the sea in fine weather. Impossible to take by surprise, it was an efficient defence post.
Chapelle Sainte Philomène and remains of the old village
Chapelle Sainte Philomène was the chapel of Vieux-Puget – an ancient medieval village of which only a few sections of wall remain today.

It was erected in the late 11th century, reworked in the 14th century and extended in the 17th century, just before the old village was abandoned and the inhabitants set up home in the current valley.

It is an unusual building, comprising 2 naves ending in a semicircular apse roofed with a half dome. The door opens to the south-east and is topped with a square bell tower. It also features a semicircular arch and Gothic arch, confirming that it has been reworked on many occasions.
